Understanding the Qur'an is an obligation for all Muslims. As we all know that the Qur'an is a guide for all humans on earth. In understanding the meaning conveyed by Allah swt in the Qur'an, it is not enough to understand with translation alone, this is certainly many who are mistaken in understanding the meaning contained in the Qur'an. one of the factors supporting a person in understanding the verses of the Qur'an is mastering Arabic language skills in various fields. Because understanding a good verse is very dependent on parsing mufrodat, lafazh-lafazh and understanding in accordance with the sentence structure. studying the Qur'an will not be understood properly if you do not master Arabic. A person who masters the language will make it easier for him to understand the Qur'an. So it can be said that if the students have the ability to understand the Qur'anic verses well, the students will also have good Arabic language skills.

The formulation of the problem in this study is whether there is a correlation between Arabic language skills and the ability to understand the Qur'anic verses of the santri of the madrasa aliyah negeri 1 metro. With the aim of wanting to know whether there is a correlation between the two abilities by looking at the level of closeness of the two. The method used in this research is quantitative. The sampling technique used cluster random sampling technique with a population of 124 students. The data collection technique used two tests, namely oral tests and written tests and documentation. The data analysis technique used the Pearson product moment formula.

The results of this study concluded that there is a relationship between Arabic language skills and the ability to understand Qur'anic verses. This is evident from the results of hypothesis testing using the pearson product moment formula obtained the rcount price of 0.4818 is greater than the rtable price with a significant level of 5% at 0.301. Ranging between 0.400-0.599 which means that there is a positive correlation between variables X and Y is a positive correlation which is classified as moderate (strong enough). So that in this study the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and (Ho) is rejected. Thus it can be concluded that the ability to speak Arabic can affect the ability to understand the Qur'an verses of the students of class XI IPA 6 dormitory Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Metro. Which means that if there is an increase in the students' Arabic language skills, the ability to understand the Qur'anic verses of the students will also be good.
