ANALISIS ESENSI “FAIR PLAY” DALAM PERTANDINGAN SEPAK BOLA PADA NILAI LUHUR KEISLAMAN MASYARAKAT KOTA METRO

Abstract

This study aims to describe the societal moral values reflected through the essence of fair play in football matches. While social values have been extensively studied, fair play as the primary object of analysis remains relatively underexplored. Football was chosen as the focus of this research due to its status as the most popular and widely played sport in Indonesia, as well as its significant influence on social life. Fair play not only embodies honesty in play but also upholds ethics, respect for opponents, and rejection of destructive behaviors such as corruption, violence, and discrimination. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation at three football clubs in Metro City: AMOR, PASER, and K-United. The findings reveal that all clubs have systematically implemented fair play principles, both in training materials and on-field practices. Coaches and players demonstrated a strong commitment to sportsmanship, which has contributed to the clubs' competitive achievements. This study affirms that football serves not only as a form of entertainment and a means of maintaining physical health but also as a medium for character education and the internalization of noble values, both in competition and in everyday life.
