Abstract

This study aims to analyze the interaction patterns between teachers and students in shaping religious character in the boarding school classes of MAN 1 Lampung Timur. The research addresses how interaction patterns are formed, the role of teachers in character building, and the dominant interaction pattern that supports the internalization of religious values. A qualitative field research approach was employed, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the headmaster, vice principal for student affairs, Islamic education teachers, dormitory supervisors, and students. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, with source and technique triangulation to ensure validity. The findings reveal that teacher-student interactions occur through three patterns: one-way, two-way, and multi-way interactions. These interaction patterns function complementarily in fostering students’ religious character through instruction, habituation, dialogue, mentoring, and collaborative activities within the boarding school environment. However, the two-way interaction pattern is the most dominant due to its intensive communication, emotional closeness, and continuous mentoring between teachers and students. This study contributes to Islamic education theory by emphasizing that effective religious character formation in boarding schools is strongly influenced by interactive communication patterns, particularly two-way interaction, which integrates cognitive, affective, and social dimensions in the character-building process.
