Abstract

This research was motivated by the limited learning materials for the Islamic Cultural History subject at MIN 2 Metro, which were still oriented toward memorization and had not been able to develop students’ higher-order thinking skills. In addition, students experienced difficulties in understanding the material because the learning materials were less attractive, less contextual, and did not include learning activities based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Therefore, this study aimed to: (1) analyze the need for Islamic Cultural History learning materials at MIN 2 Metro, (2) develop a HOTS-based Islamic Cultural History learning module, and (3) determine the validity level of the developed module.

This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE Level 1 development model, which was limited to three stages: Analyze, Design, and Development. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, questionnaires, and literature study. The research instruments consisted of material expert validation sheets and media expert validation sheets. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis techniques with a Likert scale.

The results of the study indicated that the learning materials used at MIN 2 Metro were still limited to textbooks and simple worksheets; therefore, the development of a HOTS-based module was needed. The developed module consisted of a module cover, module identity, user instructions, learning outcomes, Khulafaur Rasyidin materials, summaries, HOTS-based exercises, glossary, references, and author biography. The material expert validation result obtained a percentage of 90.5% categorized as “very feasible,” while the media expert validation result obtained a percentage of 90.8% categorized as “very feasible.” Furthermore, the overall average validation result reached 92.4%, indicating that the module was highly feasible to be used as supporting teaching material in Islamic Cultural History learning at MIN 2 Metro.
